Blue's Story
Just about every owner of an ACD has a story to tell about their four legged friends. Here is ours...

When Blue, our first Australian Cattle dog, was relatively new to the family he had some obedience issues. He was my husband's dog, so I took second place in his world. I had never had a dog who resented me giving orders before, and I didn't like it. Things like Blue removing himself from the front door steps as I was entering the home became major issues. Blue just didn't think he had to obey me. One day it became ugly, and my husband and I decided we wouldn't have such an ill tempered dog around our family. So, we began the process of finding him a new home. During this time, we took a family walk (with Blue) on our farm. We discovered a neighbor's cow had gotten in our field and was separated from her calf. She was very agitated, and became more so the more we worked to get her back into her field. I put my three year old up on a knoll where I thought would be a safe place as we worked to get the cow across the creek. The cow was really mad by this time!  In the next instant, the cow darted across the creek and straight up the hill where my child stood. It all happened so fast that the cow had closed a 15 yard gap in what seemed like a split second. I only had time to pray, really only call on His name, when suddenly out of no where Blue was directly in between my child and that cow nose to nose literally! I still don't know how Blue got there from where he was, so fast. The cow turned and came back down the hill where she then went straight through the fence to her calf. In the Bible, God used a rooster and a donkey. Well, that day, God used a dog to save my precious child. Needless to say, that was several years ago and Blue is still a part of our family. He has since learned some manners. He now removes himself quickly from my front door step when I am entering my home.  :)   Yes, he still has his moments, but he will always have a place in our hearts!
March 9, 2011 Entry: We lost our much loved Blue boy a couple of weeks before Christmas. We had him for 10 years. You always try to give words to someone about the loss of their pet, but this really hit home. I probably haven't suffered over the loss of a pet like this since I was young. He truly was a part of this family. He was without a doubt the smartest, most loyal dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning for myself...and I'm quite sure my husband feels the same. There is a blessing though...a couple of months before his accident I had decided to breed him to a girl of ours that hasn't conceived in three years. I just decided I would since he was getting old, and you have to understand, this dog was special, papers or not. I really wasn't expecting much. Well, long story short, Blue was the proud sire of a boy and a girl. It truly is a blessing. I am so very thankful to have his son today, and my parents own the little girl, Lily, and is she beautiful!
